An Unspoken Monologue

She felt as if she was sinking into an abyss. Her heart was screaming for help but there was no one who would lend a helping hand. Devastated and depressed she mechanically went ahead with her days; hoping for things to change. She was told that 'to be happy you must change'. Why? thought she. Why always me? Am I not wanted by anyone? Does no one love me? Where do I belong? This questions troubled her day and night. The question of her existence bothered her. For what dis she squander her life? For becoming depressed and losing herself in the process? She was told that what she did was not new. Every woman does it. This response made her realize that she was useless for them. She held no value whatsoever the situation. She continued with her monologue - No matter what, despite changing situations, the society still considers a woman as a burden and an unimportant person. Despite doing everything she still remains an outsider as a daughter in law. She must perform her duties towards all but no body remembers their duty towards her. Even the parents do not support her as they fear that the daughter will seek refuge in her maternal house / may get divorced. Everyone advices her to be calm, sweet and take care of her family. No body ever reminds her to take care of herself. No body teaches her self love; instead she is taught to be selfless. She yearns for someone who would understand her - her sister / brother / father / mother / husband / relatives / anyone. This yearning desire of hers is considered as something out of the world. Everyone analyzes things based on what they see and hear. No one ever realizes what the person is going through or is suffering from. Tired after crying for hours she fell asleep on the sofa of her drawing room.

She had a dream. A dream where she and all the women (especially daughters in law) around her were genuinely happy. Everyone supported one another. Every family took care and respected the women in their families. They took care and stood by one another. It seemed as if all the women who are on the planet are immensely happy as the system has changed. There is no jealousy / bitching / selfishness / hatred around. The parents of women stood by their girls. They heard their daughter and did not encourage her to sacrifice her happiness. She was given a free hand in all the affairs - personal & professional. She never had to prioritize to prove herself - for her family / friends / relatives. Every woman was glowing with her radiant beauty because she was genuinely happy and content. Her parents and siblings supported her through thick and thin and did not judge their daughter / sister. She had tears of joy in her sleep. She did not want to open her eyes and wipe them. She continued sobbing in her dream and thanked God with folded hands. She wanted that her dream came to life and there she heard God's voice telling her, "My child!!! your wish has been granted." She leapt with joy and opened her eyes to find that her dream had been extended into reality.

She felt good and relieved that she got back her life. The predicament of all the women in the society had changed. Every woman was beaming with joy and radiance. This was the perfect society which she desired. A society where there is no humiliation, insult, molestation and abuse of any kind for any daughter in law. There were booming opportunities for women everywhere. She educated herself, groomed her personality and excelled at every level. Her mind that was depressed and devastated became rejuvenated and cheerful.

PS: This is the plight of majority of the women (especially daughters in law) in society who suffer at the domestic front. The society never bothers to respect or care for them. Many of them are brutally judged by their own parents / siblings when they oppose the ill treatment / react at the domestic front because their own families are ashamed to support the girl. Such women sink into depression and are left alone on their own. Hope things change for good like the dream of the above monologue.
